Background:  The Cornwall College Class of 1985 Scholarship Fund was established in 2017 and has provided scholarship assistance to students of Cornwall College every year since then.

Name of Scholarship: Cornwall College Class of 1985 Scholarship.

Number of scholarships: The number of annual awards varies and is determined each year by the Cornwall College Class of 1985 Scholarship Committee depending on available funding and the needs expressed through the application process.

Scholarship Amount: Scholarship amount is determined each year by the Cornwall College Class of 1985 Scholarship Committee depending on available funding and the needs expressed through the application process. Scholarships have been granted in the amount J$25,000, J$50,000 and $80,000.

Application Start Date: Applications are open throughout the year for the next academic year.

Application Deadline: Applications for the 2020-2021 academic year closed on August 15.

Application Criteria:

Application for the award is open to all students of Cornwall College including sixth formers - male and female. It is intended to provide financial assistance to cover some costs associated with studying at Cornwall College or post secondary education for fifth formers or upper sixth formers intending to pursue tertiary education or post-secondary technical training in Jamaica during the year of the award.

Each completed application on the prescribed application form should be accompanied by a School Support Letter from a Teacher, Guidance Counsellor or School Principal. The letter should provide a profile of the student’s academic performance, verify the need for financial assistance, and indicate the level of assistance recommended.

Each completed application should also be accompanied by a Community Support Letter for example, from a Minister of Religion, Business Person, Sports Coach, Community Leader, elected Political Representative, Head of a Community Institution or a Justice of The Peace. This letter is to provide information on the student’s character, involvement in community activities and suitability for an award of financial assistance.

Students seeking the award to assist with their pursuit of post-secondary education are required to submit an acceptance letter from the post-secondary institution they will attend.

Priority consideration will be given to students who demonstrate the need for assistance, good academic performance or potential, leadership ability, exemplary character traits and are actively involved in community activities and co-curricular activities at school.

The names and photographs of award recipients may be released for publicity purposes.
